The App as Art : Apple iPad Debut During Art 41 Basel, Switzerland - Culture Shock Marketing (CSM) Presents Generative Animations by Glenn Marshall
(June 17th, 2010 - Basel, Switzerland) - In conjunction with its Basel debut, CSM has announced a partnership with VOLTA6, the renowned art exposition representing cutting-edge emerging art. As part of the collaboration, CSM is curating an installation of new generative animations by award-winning computer animator Glenn Marshall in the VOLTA LOUNGE at Dreispitzhalle (Dreispitz Areal, Tor/Gate 13, Helsinki Strasse 5, CH4142 Münchenstein/Basel).
The installation screens new visualization applications by Marshall, projected directly from an Apple iPad, a technical first which required the artist to recode his App to allow an output through VGA. The piece is causing quite a stir in Basel, a city where the iPad is hard to get hold of due to high demand and short supply. The iPad projection piece is on view until Sunday, June 20th at VOLTA6 as a warm up to the CSM presented 101love VIP Launch Party at voltahalle on Friday, June 18th, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. at voltahalle (Voltastrasse 27, 4056 Basel). The invite-only event features music by The Advocate (dupe, London) who will mix vocal recordings of the artist 101love during a live DJ set, where Marshall’s generative animated visuals will again be displayed, growing organically throughout the event. The invite-only event features music by The Advocate (dupe, London) who will mix vocal recordings of the artist during a live DJ set, with generative animated visuals by Glenn Marshall (Belfast). This debut CSM Basel (Switzerland) event is the forerunner to a major large scale December Miami 101love art show of sculpture, paintings, prints, transparencies and digital art.

CSM's CEO Debra Anderson will host private viewings of the 4 minute film trailer "One" in Basel (by appointment only) for VIPs, collectors and members of the media. The film, about the artist 101love, is a collaboration between Irish artists Hugh McGrory (film/photography) and Glenn Marshall (computer animation).
