Client Case Studies

Subliminal Projects

Client: Subliminal Projects,  Echo Park, CA

Challenge: Reaching new audiences for the gallery’s contemporary program that combines the worlds of commercial and fine art.

Services: Email marketing, media relations, artist liaison, media and VIP mailings

Implementation: After working closely with Shepard Fairey on his successful 2007 New York debut, Culture Shock Marketing was hired by Shepard and Amanda Fairey to direct the marketing and public relations for SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS Gallery’s inaugural exhibition at its new location in Echo Park, and promote its 2008 exhibition calendar. CSM examined the gallery’s mission and location in order to position SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS as principal innovator in art and cultural societies. Through strategic planning and intense media relations outreach, VIP mailings, and targeted email marketing, Culture Shock Marketing aimed to promote the dynamic approach SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS is taking in the art industry: solidifying many established designer and commercial-based artists’ careers with their first foray into the fine art world, and paving the way for the next fervent wave of talent. Featured artists included Blek Le Rat, House Industries, Dee Dee Cheriel, Park Life curated by Studio Number One, and Big Kids / Little Kids curated by John Freeborn.

Result: High attendance of VIP guests at exhibition openings; preview coverage of famed Parisian stencil icon Blek Le Rat’s first U.S. solo exhibition in The Los Angeles Times; feature articles in LA Times, LA Weekly, Angeleno Magazine, Creativity Magazine, and numerous regional media outlets sparking new interest among art aficionados. Subliminal Projects continued with CSM as official marketing firm for the gallery for their 2009 exhibition calendar.
